to rule alle rewmes þerwith in right & in resoun

Nay he saide y seke him þat haþ þe seel to kepe

So ys þe holy gost god & grace with-owton mercy
To alle vnkynde creatures · þat coueyton to destruye
leel lycam & lifC · þat our lord shupte
and as glowyng gledes gladeth not þes werkmen
þat worchon & wakon in wynteres nyghtes
as doth a kex or a candel þat caughthath / caught hath fuyr & blaseth

But þis is the worste wise þat any wight myghte
synne aȝen þe seint spirit assente to destruye
For coueitise of any-kynne thing þat crist hereT boughte
how myghte he aske mercy or any mercy him defende
þat wikkedly & wilfully wolde mercy anyente
ynnocense ys next god & nyght & day hit crieth
veniaunce veniaunce forȝiue be hit neuere
þat shente vs & shedde our blod forshupt vs as hit semed
CVindica sanguinem iustorum & cetera .
¶ veniaunce veniaunce veray charite asketh
and sith charite þat holichurch is chargith þis so sore
Leue y neuere þat oure lord at þe last ende
wol louye þat lif þat loue & charite destruyenT
and am sory þat y so þe seint spirit agulte
Confesse me & crie his grace god that al made
and myldely his mercy aske myght y not be saued
ÞusT saide þe samaritan so þou myghtist repente
þat rightwisnesse þorgh repentaunce to ruthe might turne
